The late 1960's progressive psych era was a real catalyst, and excited by such as JIMI HENDRIX with this album "AXIS; BOLD AS LOVE"
This may be the BEST example, it ranks among the better late sixties psychedelic rock recordings - and the astounding deployment of STEREO effects is EXCEPTIONAL!
Hendrix had already leapt at the opportunity to 'do his own thing' - getting away from expectations as a soul or funk artist, and extending blues to an unprecedented level.
Straight after the release of his (already mindblowing) debut, he wanted to stretch studio capabilities and the STEREO format, and make a '3 dimensional' sound - which he partly achieved on this recording! Listen to the 'circular' panning on the opening of side 1, quite amazing - it worked!
It's legend now, but in the vinyl mastering the affect was mistakenly CORRECTED, so the results were actually diluted to an extent. Jimi had also lost the reel for one side of the final studio mix, so it had to be hurriedly pre-mixed. Jimi was undoubtedly stoned - it is the only explanation.
The buzz around London was strong, as every guitar 'god' was sweating profusely at his feral dexterity on a guitar, playing it 'upside down' and basically making it sound like they'd never imagined the instrument possibly could!
Chas Chandler had set something loose on the scene that put the bar higher than it ever was before or after.
Jimi continued to advance, we can never imagine what could have been, sadly the chance was taken away in 1970.
Here's the second Experience album as issued on the original Track Records lable.
CONDITION;
The VINYL is VG++, looking playing and sounding great. Light sleeve marks. The track 'If Six Was Nine' has a mark that causes some pops.
The LABLES are VG++, with a couple of initials in pen.
The FRONT LAMINATED GATEFOLD COVER is VG+, no splits or tears, light wear.
A respectable example.
