The Rolling Stones : Their Satanic Majesties Request (1st Press 1P/P1)
This genuine first 1P/P1 mono pressing on the unboxed and grooved blue Decca label plays with superb audio on S1 the majority of which plays with Mint- quality. S2 is not of the same standard as there is some static here and there but still plays with excellent audio in the main.
As collectors will know the mono LP of 'Satanic' exists in two different versions. The original master tape was mixed twice, the first was used for mono records and the second for both mono and stereo. The first mix was used on mono records with the 1P/P1 stampers and this is known as the 'true' mono pressing. You can actually hear the difference between the two - 'The Lantern' bell tolls three times at the beginning (true) as opposed to twice on the (non-true) second mono mix.
The famous 3D cover is in excellent order with very little shelf wear and the original inner is very clean with only a couple of small side splits.

Visual grading
This first pressing is in excellent condition overall and certainly cleaner than so many you see today. There are a number of faint hairlines but definitely less than you normally find and there are no scratches. S2 has a few more and some tiny 'specks' but both sides still have a glossy look - not a perfect looking vinyl by any means but, as I say, better than most. The run grooves are mega clean and the labels do not actually have very much spindle wear.
Play grading
The lead in grooves have barely any static so you're immediately thinking this is going to play well and it does not disappoint! The intro on 'Sing This All Together' is 'as new' and has no 'background' at all. This stunning clarity continues as Jagger's vocal comes in and the remainder of the track is just...well amazingly good! I have never heard this opening track play with such astounding depth and definition. The mid instrumental plays to perfection and the final section also plays with perfect clarity. I can't stress enough just how well this plays and a Mint- grade is a fair assessment.
'Citadel' is another 'high end' track and plays with great power throughout. There is only the lightest of static on the intro - and I do mean light it could easily be missed! Thereafter this classic has a clarity and depth that is second to none. There is a little static in the 'silent' section at the half way point but that is the only obvious 'background'. It plays with pure power and again I have never heard a better version. No distortion and barely any static on the fade out. Near Mint without question but the vast majority is better than that!
'In Another Land' is another track that just makes you sit back in amazement! Vinyl collectors will know that 'feeling' when a rare pressing plays to a phenomenal standard and I'm getting it here! It is clear this vinyl has not been over-played as the definition of the audio is crystal clear - each note is so sharply defined and plays with immaculate precision. I heard only a handful of barely audible static ticks and the end 'snore' is the only section where there is some obvious static. What a version. Aside from the final 'sound affect' this is Near Mint I am confident in saying.
'2000 Man' has only the bare minimum of static on the intro but it really is difficult to pick it up. From then on the playback is hugely impressive with only a small number of light static sounds. They are totally non-intrusive as they are so quiet and drowned out by the stunning quality of the audio. As the volume increases I cannot adequately describe how well this classic plays, it is so powerful and 100% breathtaking! A lot of this is down to how 'clean' the record is but the production also plays a vital part in this. The audio separation is there i.e. each note can be heard so clearly and this is another Near Mint track on this album.
The quiet intro on 'Sing This All Together (See What Happens)' does have some static/crackle but as the volume increases the audio cannot be faulted. The playback is quite simply perfect with no intrusion of any kind and the clarity is again exceptional. I played every second so as to provide a complete grading and apart from the intro this is audio of the highest quality. There are no clicks or pops and no other 'background' either and rarely there is no distortion. Even in the quiet section prior to the final vocal there is no interference and the remainder is also very impressive with only a little static in the 'silent' section just before the final instrumental end section.

The spoken 'intro' on 'She's A Rainbow' has only a little static but there is one dull pop type sound. The piano intro frustratingly has one minor skip but minimal static. From then on the audio is of a wonderful standard and the definition is again so impressive. There is only a little static in the quieter sections but in no way is it intrusive and the up tempo sections are 'as new'. A highly creditable version with the intro being the only negative.
'The Lantern' has a little more obvious static on the intro, this is always the case I find but there are no clicks or pops. As the vocal begins the playback is very strong and it continues in the same way. There is just some light static in the quieter sections. Overall an Ex grading is fair here.
'Gomper' also has some static on the intro but the music still plays very clearly. As it continues there is still some underlying static but there are certainly no clicks or pops and it remains an excellent listen. The long 'instrumental' section plays extremely well with barely any 'background'. There is some crackle on the quieter end section.
The intro on '2000 Light Years From Now' plays very well but again has some ubiquitous static in the background. As the track 'gets going' and Jagger's vocal begins the audio is superb. There is no interference and it has a depth and clarity equal to that of S1. The quiet mid section has only the lightest of static and the remainder plays to a 'high end' standard and only minimal static on the quiet end section.
'On With The Show' has a mega clean intro and then plays with great clarity - perhaps not played too often the sonic quality is very impressive. To the end it has no obvious interference, just a minor hint of distortion on the 'crowd' section at the end.
In summary the audio on this first pressing is a strange one! S1 plays with stunning sound quality but S2 does have some 'background' as described. In saying that there are no clicks or pops, apart from the intro, and the only issue is with some static here and there. I must reiterate though S1 is absolutely mind-blowing! This is also one of the cleaner versions of this LP that I have seen. Yes there are some hairlines but it is not heavily marked like so many you see.
The Gatefold
The lenticular 3-D gatefold is in excellent condition and again better than most you see for sale these days. Three of the edges have no rubbing at all and only the bottom edge of the back cover has minimal wear. The spine is in superb order with no wear whatsoever and that applies to the corners also. The right hand corners of the front and back cover are very clean with only minimal wear again. The opening edge has no obvious handling wear. The 3D image is perfect condition and the laminate is near to that standard with only one faint crease on the right side of the iconic image. The back cover is in lovely condition with only one faint crease and a very small area of scratching just above 'Majesties'. I wonder if it was next to the 'Sticky Fingers' zip at some time! The inside of the gatefold is in great shape with only the wrong crease running down the left side, very faint though. Overall this famous 3D cover is in excellent condition with only superficial wear really.
Inner Sleeve
The original red inner has one small side split and a small split on the bottom edge but is otherwise very clean with no marking and hardly any creasing.
The Labels
The grooved blue labels have only a little spindle wear as stated and remain very clean with no marking or writing.
