Fiends! Ghouls! Creeps! In the grand tradition of Frankie Stein & his Ghouls and The Deadly Ones, In The Red is proud to announce the release of Thee Cormans Halloween Record w/ Sound Effects a bonafide Halloween rock ní roll album being dropped just in time for the only holiday that matters.?? Southern Californian biker/surf instrumental combo Thee Cormans have been bashing out their brand of Davie Allan & The Arrows meets the Ventures on meth thrash for several years now. Theirs is a sound informed by scratched up 60's instrumental records, KBD punk records and exploitation B-movies chock full of monsters, bikers and mayhem. What this group of weirdos does to the surf instrumental genre is very similar to what The Mummies did to Pacific Northwest 60's rock back in the 90's. That is they speed it up, drag it through the mud, pour a can of politically incorrect attitude over the top of it and call it a pie. In this case the pie is filled with rubber bats, plastic fangs and novelty shrunken heads.?? Halloween Record w/ Sound Effects will make you shriek, rattle & roll! These are spine-chilling sounds guaranteed to make you shiver! Flesh-ripping guitar playing! Skull pulverizing drum beats! Gore-spattering bass lines! Spooky, hair-raising sound effects! The bloody horror of this record is positively sinister! You will hate yourself if you miss this!?? In The Red can't be held legally responsible for death caused by heart failure or fright due to listening to this record. In other words, this record is NOT for sissies! (IN THE RED RECORDS)

Actually, it is probably too punk for you, seriously. I am NOT gonna compare this to anything, cause that never does any good. Poison Ivy from the Almighty Cramps has said it is the best record she has heard or seen in years. This slab o wax oozes sex, anger, sensuality & the middle finger."

"Just in time for the month of pumpkins and candy comes a true Halloween surf classic from California’s deranged surf monsters Thee Cormans. It’s brought to us by the excellent ears at In The Red, and it’s full of gritty guitar tones, weird effects and even goofier song transitions. Thee Cormans seem to be one of those dress-up surf/garage bands that we’re pretty used to here in the land of Madison (Knuckle Dragger anyone?), but there’s something special about a record made just for Halloween with the zaniest and best horror sound effects money can buy. ITR’s Larry Hardy offers some sage advice on the back of the record: “If the duration of the sound is too short, dub it off onto tape a few times and edit up the sounds to make one continuous effect. And for some really FAR-OUT SOUND, try playing the record at 16 or 78 RPM.” FAR OUT indeed! While yr tripping to the sounds, turn the lights off and fire up yr black light to check out the wild cover art (especially if you were lucky enough to grab one of the glow in the dark vinyl versions. Editor’s Note: The cover art was supposed to be glow in the dark but according to the ITR web site it doesn’t work properly).

But remember kids! This is NOT your daddy’s surf record…this one’s full of fright and fun (like sound effects that eventually make you realize you just listened to a Monster dropping some turkeys off at the pool, or a maniac getting electrocuted while emptying their bowels). It’s like The Ventures on meth and acid together or something far more twisted…at times the guitars reverse and comes back in bees a blazin’. Would have fit perfectly on Crypt in its day, or In The Red right now (like it is!)! In true garage/trash fashion the record’s a bit jagged around the edges, which I’m sure makes it sound better. Of course there’s the perfect vocal sound samples you’d expect on a surf record made bya group of maniacle mask wearing creepos (a chick saying “Beat It Creep” and then ultimately “Get Bite Creep”!) The drums and bass are pretty crisp versus the reverbbed fuzz guitar that sounds magnificent out front and center. I’ve already spun it four times since getting it just a couple days ago! Be sure to put it on at yr big Halloween dance party/kegger/box wine social!"

"The best holiday record is a holiday record you can play anytime of the year without it feeling wrong. Although Thee Cormans new LP is specifically called "Halloween Record w/ Sound Effects" it'd make an excellent party soundtrack to Fourth Of July, Labor Day, or Easter, but it's an absolutely perfect one for All Hallows' Eve. These creeps hide behind masks (a SS Frankenstein, Gorilla, and Googly-eyed moss-dick? to be 2/3s exact), but they ain't hiding anything when it comes to the music. Thee Cormans are from L.A., the most notorious U.S. surf town, and they display their knack for making fuzzed-out instrumental surf-rock from the drop of the needle and don't let up until the diamond hits the dead wax. There are occasional spooky vocal bits about monsters and as the title suggests, some eerie sound effects in between tracks, but the majority of this long-player is ALL rock. Thee Cormans made just one mistake on this record, titling it "Halloween Record" when it's more of an everyday record. That's how often we've been spinning it. We recommend you do the same. Total bonus: Save yourself some time and effort by getting the album digitally with the included download card and cover that huge hole in yr wall with the excellent Monster Mailorder poster included inside the screen-printed jacket instead of patching it."
