Thin Lizzy : Bad Reputation 1Y1 / 2Y1 1st Press Vertigo 1977

This first pressing plays with stunning quality with only one click and a couple of light ticks on S2.  Aside from that the clarity, depth and power of the audio is so impressive and S1 in particular is stunning.  Well S2 is also apart from a couple of milliseconds!  It would be hard to find a cleaner version.

The laminated cover is in excellent condition with only light wear and the original picture inner remains in superb order.

Visual description

The vinyl is in excellent condition and still has a strong glossy sheen with no marks or scratches.  Under a bright light you can see some faint hairlines but they have no impact on the audio.  There is one tiny speck on S2 causing the one click but it is incredibly difficult to find!  The Vertigo labels are unmarked and have hardly any spindle wear.

Play grading  

The intro on 'Soldier Of Fortune' has no background and the first verse is just as impressive.  A superb start.  From then on the clarity and depth of the audio is 'as new' and the brief silence just before the percussive section is totally silent giving you a good idea of the clarity on offer.  The following instrumental is faultless and the end vocal is equal to that.  The fade has no background either and this is definitely a Mint start to the album.

'Bad Reputation' plays loud and true and the audio is so deep, rich and powerful.  There is no interference and Downey's percussion is so strong here.  This classic could not play with any greater depth and resonance and Mint is again deserved.

The intro on 'Opium Trail' plays perfectly and Lynott's first vocal has no intrusion either.  It continues in the same precise way and again it's comparable to an unplayed vinyl with no background or distortion, just pure Mint audio from start to finish.

'Southbound' ends the side with imperious quality.  The depth and warmth of the audio is flawless and the clarity is also 'as new' with no background of any kind.  A vocally driven track there are no negatives and it has to grade as Mint

The bass intro on 'Dancing In The Moonlight...' is strong and deep and has no background.  The first verse and chorus play perfectly and from then on the standard does not drop.  I did notice a couple of minor statics during one of the instrumental sections but they are very quiet and totally non-intrusive of course.  A touch of light static on the fade out also but Mint- is still very much deserved.

The intro on 'Killer Without A Cause' has only a hint of barely audible static and then the opening vocal plays with exceptional clarity, depth and power.  It continues to play with a sonic that is second to none.  The guitar work is first class of course and there are only a couple of light statics on the fade out.  Mint-

'Downtown Sundown' plays so clearly with no interference.  No obvious ticks, clicks or pops and I only 'picked' 3/4 very minor statics that are so much in the background anyway.  Who mentions barely audible statics on their listings anyway?  Well I do!  In essence it plays with sublime clarity and depth and Mint- is the only grade I can give.

The intro on 'That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart' is stunning - the playback resonates so powerfully with tremendous depth and clarity.  The opening vocal does have one tick that is a little more obvious and a couple of very quiet statics but from then on it plays with real quality and there is no background worthy of mention.  A great track that isn't far from perfect I will grade the first vocal as Near Mint- and the remainder as Mint I think that is fair.

At first I thought the intro on 'Dear Lord' was going to play perfectly but there is one light static and a click just towards the end.  The next section is flawless and the opening vocal is 'as new' also.  From then on the audio is so clean and fresh and there is nothing to detract from the crystal clear sound.  The vocals sections plays with sublime clarity and the closing instrumental has no background either.  A bit like the previous track this is close to perfect with just that one millisecond of interference!  I will say Ex- for the intro but the rest is Mint for sure.

In summary this first pressing plays to a very high standard with only one click and a couple of minor ticks on S2 being the only intrusion to what is otherwise a stunning album.  S1 is indeed perfect without any background and clearly S2 is not far behind.  Of the three Thin Lizzy albums I am selling there is only one click between them!  The clarity, depth and power of the audio here is very impressive and any collector will be very impressed with the sonic quality I am sure of that.

The Gatefold & Inner Sleeve

 The cover is excellent condition with only a little shelf wear.  The top edge is perfect and only the bottom edge has the bare minimum of rubbing.  The spine is very clean with only a couple of white crease marks and all four corners are in great shape with hardly any wear.  The opening edge has next to no handling wear.  The main surface of the front cover is in lovely condition and only around the perimeter can you can see three creases next to the spine and one minor scuff next to the opening edge.  The back cover is superb with only one barely visible mark by the opening edge again.

The picture inner is stunning with only a couple of tiny creases and a minor hint of ringwear.

I will only send items items worldwide via tracked shipping.  This provides 'peace of mind' in case of loss or damage.  The shipping costs are shown below and combined shipping is always offered.  Any over-payment will always be refunded.

The Royal Mail only insure up to a value of £250 so if an item sells for more it may be wise to use a courier service (e.g. Parcelforce or DPD).  An extra insurance premium will be required but I will not know the exact amount until the final sale price is known.  Because of this I will sometimes have to estimate the cost and this will be shown in the listing.  Please wait for the invoice before making payment and if you have any questions please feel free to ask.  Many thanks.

All vinyls are packaged in strong over-sized custom made mailers with plenty of extra cardboard protection.  They are placed inside separate poly-lined inners outside the cover so as to avoid seam splits in transit and then placed inside a PVC sleeve to provide even more protection.  I pride myself on my high quality packaging as my feed confirms and if any customer has any specific requirements I am more than happy to help.

The mailers I use cost £1.00 each and I will use anything between 3-5 cardboard stiffeners which cost approx £0.18 each.  There is also the cost of the poly-lined inner and PVC sleeve to consider, it all adds up!  Not forgetting that eBay take 10% of the shipping fee also!!
