On offer is the 1972 LP by TONY CAPSTICK with HEDGEHOG PIE called HIS ROUND on RUBBER RECORDS, catalogue number RUB004. On his debut album, Tony Capstick was joined by HEDGEHOG PIE. “When the record was started I was being backed by various people - but Mick, Phil, Andy and Jed, who are in a band called Hedgehog Pie, took over, so I suppose its really a record by us all.” Capstick found fame as one of the “folk comedians” who emerged from the scene in the seventies, along with Fred Wedlock, Mike Harding, Billy Connolly et al. But his first album is an eclectic mix of traditional (Foggy Dew) and contemporary (To Ramona), graced by the musicianship of Hedgehog Pie. With hindsight, the title has a cruel irony: Capstick was a great entertainer brought to an early demise by alcohol.
This vinyl is NEAR MINT, with shiny grooves, no scratches, no scuffmarks, no pops, no sticking and no background noise. The labels are clean, with no writing, and no spindle marks. The catalogue number is stamped into the run-out groove denoting a first issue. The GATEFOLD sleeve is in excellent condition, with a crease in the laminate that runs down the right-hand side of the cover. What do we say in the trade? The ultimate up-grade copy, to all extent and purposes brand spanking new.
The album comes from the collection of the late Ian Chappell, director of the Hampshire-based South Eastern Museums Service. A devoted collector of folk music, Chappell would obsessively buy multiple copies of the same record in search of vinyl perfection. They were acquired by the seller at auction from Omega Auctions of Stockport in June 2012.
