WWA RECORDS - WWA 001
Techno before techno, this is a very obscure record from the Groundhogs front man. The a-side being very straight Blues Rock, with next level lyrics of a political slant. The flip however is an oddball, brilliant slice of experimental synth music based around the hunts which used to occur throughout the Home Counties in the UK until they were outlawed recently.
Sounding almost like Drexciya, Rob Hood and early Asmus Tietchen's on Sky all in the studio programming Arp's together, with Tony's voice over the top. There are some moments of genius on here, or i wouldn't have referenced the earlier artists. The 4/4 section of The Hunt is especially prophetic, proto-techno for sure. There are also moments that sound completely dated, and pretty bad, but are overshadowed by the naive genius of Mcphee.
It's a good example of experimental electronics from the 70's, found in an unlikely place, with a good political stance and a great custom sleeve. (FROM DISCOGS)
