Description
Apple Records SO 383 Abbey Road The Beatles. Abbey Road is the eleventh studio album by The Beatles released on October 26, 1969 on Apple Records. According to Author Bruce Spizer in his great books on Beatles record releases he tells us that the Abbey Road LP was packaged in three different covers. The LP OFFERED HERE is now known by most collectors as Spizer SC1B the First press, SECOND ISSUE COVER.
Abbey Road was the first Beatles album released in America with print-on-board covers (see Spizer SC1A, SC1B). The LP offered here SC1B involved printing the cover image directly onto white pasteboard which is then folded and glued to form the jacket, the new print-on-board covers were a superior looking package. One advantage was that the covers were manufactured by one company, whereas all previous Capitol Beatles LPs' had inferior paper "slick" style covers which involved both a printer and album fabricator. Capitol documents that on September 11, 1969 the artwork for Abbey Road was shipped to the printer.
The FIRST cover (SPIZER SC1A) omits the song "Her Majesty" on the back cover track listing due to the fact that old cover art work was mistakenly provided by Capitol Records to the west coast manufacture.
This First Press Second cover .....OFFERED HERE..... (Spizer SC1B) has the corrected art work for the back cover with the song "Her Majesty" listed. Using the new artwork Capitol provided the west coast company, thousands of one piece cardboard Abbey Road covers were printed. Still...this FIRST PRESS, SECOND VERSION cover with corrected back cover song listings is the MOST RARE of the three covers manufactured for Abbey Road. A lessor amount (still thousands) of this corrected song titles version with print-on-board style cover were printed before the contract was cancelled and Queens Litho in New York would print all remaining covers for years after.
This FIRST PRESS, SECOND COVER print-on-board version cover LP OFFERED HERE is Factory Sealed in excellent condition (see photos) no seam wear, no torn shrink wrap, no seam splits or edge wear, note cover bend top left, factory breathe holes, SEARS store sticker,......The Beatles Abbey Road SC1B is rare to find this nice and still sealed.....Simply BEATLEFUL! This FIRST press SECOND issue circa 1969 print-on-board cover factory sealed Beatles Abbey Road LP is from our 50+ year collection.
