Description
This is a rare Beatles Juke Box EP containing six songs from the Beatle's 12" LP "Something New." It was issued in October,1964 and is on Capitol Records SXA-2108. Included here are the hard cardboard cover, the 7" EP disc and the title strips that would identify this record in a juke box and two "minis," small reproductions of the LP cover.
For years, record manufacturers issued EP's strictly for juke box use. They provided entertainment in candy stores, luncheonettes, ice cream parlors, restaurants, bars and clubs. They also gave the listener a few samples of an artist's music in hopes that the listener would go out and by the related 12" LP. As for rock, there were juke box EP's for the Beatles, the Rolling Stones. the Beach Boys, the Four Seasons, the DC 5, and on and on!
As far as the condition of this set, the hard cardboard cover is made from the same grade of hard cardboard as LP covers were made in those days (1960's). There are no splits or writing or marks of any kind on this cover. It is extremely clean! It is in better shape than 99% of other covers of this vintage. The back is blank and is very clean. The cover is either Mint or extremely close to perfect Mint condition! It's THAT good!
As for the the actual 7" vinyl, visually it looks VG++. The labels are Mint with no stickers or writing of any kind. There are several (2-3?) very fine scratches on each side but they are inaudible (you can't hear them). I play tested all six cuts. The sound was fine and stereo separation was excellent! There was silence in the lead-in grooves and between each cut. I believe I heard 2-3 light 'clicks' in the entire six songs! Overall this 7" vinyl EP fared better than many other juke box EP's I have found over the years. Many of them were almost unplayable due to the heavy arm and stylus of the typical juke box back in the day. This one is very much playable and sounds great!
Included are title strips that would have been used in the juke box for the selection of this EP to play. There is one complete strip of 5 made of paper, a single strip made of paper and a single strip made of plastic.
Especially hard to find are the "minis."A "mini" is a small color reproduction of the front cover of the LP. Included here are two mini's of the "Something New" cover. Some juke boxes had a special "window" in which these minis could be placed for the customers to see.
61 years later and these Beatles juke box EP's are getting harder and harder to find in decent condition like this one!
