 Audio: EXC+/Nr MINT

Stunning audio and a testament to the quality of these early first pressings. Very little to fault on this copy. The initial run-in to ‘I Saw Her Standing There’ is silent. There is some surface noise evident at high volume in some of the the gaps but nothing which interferes with the music. Overall there is no groovewear, distortion or deterioration to any of the music signals. The harmonica on ‘Chains’ is a pleasure to listen to as is the undistorted harmonica on ‘Love Me Do’.  Quieter tracks like ‘Do you Want to know a Secret’ and ‘A taste of Honey’ are flawless. This superb sounding copy retains all the delicacy and detail of the original EMI master tape. The only audio fault I heard were 3 very faint ticks in the gap between ‘Ask Me Why’ and ‘Please Please Me’. A great listening experience. Needless to say the record does not jump or stick.

Labels: Side 1 - VERY GOOD   Side 2 – EXCELLENT-

A clean and relatively fresh set of labels with much of the gold lettering unworn. There is however evidence of wear around the centre holes. There is a ridged impression on side 2 which donates one of the earliest EMI Hayes pressings. Both labels carry the Dick James music credits. Side 2 carries the MT tax code. There is no writing or pen marks to either label.

Visual: Side 1 - VERY GOOD   Side 2 – VERY GOOD+

The record has obviously been played and enjoyed but similarly it has also been looked after during the last 50 years. There are various light surface marks and occasional light hairlines with signs of general use visible in daylight, however non of these marks are offensive or affect the superb audio and all are non feelable. There are no deep scratches. Whilst the record displays surface marks it does retain a good overall sheen. The record lies 100% flat on the turntable.

Cover

VERY GOOD

A solid and respectable gold cover with the the Angus McBean credit in the extreme right hand corner. The front panel still retains much of its original sheen. The back cover shows signs of ageing however it is free from any writing or any significant damage. All flipbacks are intact with only some very minor damage to the bottom right hand corner. On closer inspection there is wear along the bottom edge. Very conservatively graded at VG and significantly better than most gold covers being offered on ebay. Many dealers would grade higher.

Inner-sleeve EXCELLENT +

Clean & correct with just a touch of light storage/handling creasing.
