Description
Artist : The Beatles
Title : Please, Please Me
Format : Vinyl LP
Parlophone (PMC 1202) RARE black and gold labels. 1963 first UK pressing, in Mono.
Dick James Mus. Co credit on labels. Photo Angus McBean listed on bottom right of front cover.
Vinyl is play tested...and it plays very well indeed. Vinyl is very clean and very shiny. There are several surface marks from playback, and a couple of marks (when held up to the light) that look like scratches...but, they are very light and when played, are not audible. This record plays throughout, both sides, without any nasty pops, clicks and certainly no jumps or skips. Maybe just the odd light "tick" sound in a couple of parts of the record, but I'm being very fussy. Lovely, bright, clean sounding audio...and pressed really loud, just like all good early 1960s Mono records were.
Outer sleeve hasn't aged so well, unfortunately. Front cover isn't too bad, but as well as a few creases, there is a layer of old, yellow tape around the top edge, bottom edge and opening edge. This looks to have been done to just strengthen the card cover at some point, and doesn't look like a repair job. It covers up the "Photo Angus McBean" credit in the bottom right corner (although it is still visible)
The back cover isn't very pretty to look at, unfortunately. The good news is...it's all intact, with all text visible and no damage. The upper and lower edge flipbacks are tatty, with tape all around them. The main part of the back cover is grubby and there is quite a lot of age-related yellowing/foxing. "Printed and made by Ernest J.Day & Co. Ltd. London" on the back cover, bottom right side.
The labels...nice condition. Rare gold and black Parlophone labels. Please see pics above for more info. Dick James Mus. Co credit on songs. The previous owner's name has been written on both side 1 and side 2 labels, but is not all that noticeable unless you hold the record up to the light.
Matrix numbers on run-out .... XEX - 421 - 1N (Side 1) and XEX - 422 - 1N (Side 2)
Original paper poly-lined inner sleeve...which is in pretty shoddy condition. Creased, with some old tape repairs, and a couple of seam splits. Also has previous owner's hand-writing on one side.
So, to sum up.....really nice condition vinyl, with several surface marks and very light scratches, that do not affect playback. Lovely clean and shiny vinyl that sounds really nice when played. Well worn outer sleeve that looks ok on the front, worse on the back. Tatty condition inner paper sleeve...but original.
A rare Beatles collectable, this one. If you have any questions about this LP, then please get in touch and I'll be happy to try and answer them for you
