This is an original First Pressing of the Yellow & Black Parlophone Label copy of the Rare Remix-11 Revolver. It also has the Rare error of DR. ROBERT, as opposed to DOCTOR ROBERT, on the corrected pressings, as can be seen in the close up photo of the Side Two label. This has 'KT' as the Purchase Tax Stamp, again being the First Press Tax Coding. As a final First Press statement, this LP has, ''Sold in the UK subject to resale price conditions, see price list'' & ''The Gramophone Co Ltd'' around the inner rim.

The rare matrices are: Side One XEX 605-2 and Side Two XEX 606-1.

 It's actually very rare to find copies that have the side 2 matrix number of XEX 606-1. The majority of early mono copies out there have either 606-2 or 606-3. This is because the 606-1 copies of Revolver have a slightly different, alternative mix of the track 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. This track, known as Remix 11, has a longer fade-out and more prominent piano playing at the end. The story goes that the Beatles each received a copy of the LP after production started and later on John, after listening to his copy, either requested that the mix of TNK was changed slightly, or was replaced with another mix. The replacement mix, known as Remix 9, was very quickly added to production. It is believed that the 606-1 copies were only ever in production for a few hours in the afternoon before word came to stop because new Mother Plates with the different mix on them were on their way!

Today, copies of Revolver with the 606-1 side 2 matrix are highly sought after by collectors and copies in Excellent condition can sell for upwards of £80. VG copies are only worth slightly less, maybe around the £60 mark, so a nice record to add to a collection and a vauluable one, too!

  The "DR. ROBERT" label error was changed a little later in production to 'DOCTOR ROBERT', again because of John Lennon! He, apparently, didn't like it abbreviated. The 'DR.' labels add more to the value and it does help to show that a particular pressing is an original 1966 1st press rather than a later one. However, the abreviated credit remains on this sleeve, which John obviously did not notice!

Finally, as a total First Press statement, the Mother & Stampers are nicely low! Side One Mother or Master Dye is '7' and its Stamper or Copper Plate Dye is 'OG' or '51. Side Two has Mother '3' and Stamper 'OA' or '53'. These Stampers are really, seriously low!

The vinyl is in VG to VG+ condition, which means it does have odd surface marks, with a few hairlines and stylus skips, but nothing deep. So this is more likely VG+ ?! Grading is really subjective and open to debate and arguement, but if you check out The Record Collector or Goldmine guides, they will explain the terms and the gradings I believe are correct. I have played it and it plays well on my NAD 2020 deck. The vinyl is heavy EMI and unusually, does not have any spindle damage, just the usual gentle spindle 'rubs'. It has the KT Purchase Tax Code, surrounding the spindles, as stated.

The flip-back is a Garrod & Lofthouse and is nicely intact, with no damage or staining, just the gentle age related look of the atmosphere, handling and a small amount of spine wear. It has an EMI-tex inner, which really marks this out as First Press and it is intact, with just a tiny seem split, but otherwise totally there and original.

So, this is a rare copy of this LP. It has been played and there is surface evidence, but I think it is more than acceptable for such a unique album and a real collector's item. For those unsure of grading, please check the Record Colector or Goldmine guides, which I have referred to for my guidance, too.
