Description

An original 1st press of Pepper in Mono on UK Parlophone. Matrix 1/1. Stampers 1-ADM/1-AML [from the 1st mother]. Lovely heavy-set pressing...not all sixties are chunky like this one. The vinyl comes housed in an original very 1st iteration - wide spine cover. 95% of all original Pepper covers are slim-spine...this is the final retail design which was decided upon. But in the 1st instance - the original design was, in fact, a wide body spine [this was the very 1st possible design available to the public]. Note the wide-spine and the exposed flipbacks in the interior - all very 1st. We also have the original psyche 'Fool' inner sleeve and dark-green cut-outs. Note how the inner sleeve was designed by 'The Fool' [a collective from Holland]. They were commissioned to produce the original cover design - but it never got the "thumbs up" and was consigned to the annuls of history. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In lovely condition condition particularly considering its relative vintage - it has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a few very light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAR EXCELLENT level of playback with just a couple of deviations. When on form this copy can really deliver the goods - at times the audio absolutely aces it. Beautiful lolloping base notes as can only be re-produced effectively on these early heavy pressings. By and large a pretty clean rendition - not exclusively though. There's a touch of light static occasionally in "DAY IN THE LIFE" on side 2. But even WI64 and WYWY play really nice and clean [and they are tricky customers!].. Occasionally, on side 1, there's what I'd describe as a bit of 'light background presence' mostly minor in the mix and pretty inconsequential [I'm just being as critical as I can]. The only track on side 1 which I'd describe as being a bit sub-par is 'She's Leaving Home' - expect some consistent background crackle on this one. It is, after all, the fussiest darn track on Pepper. Nothing invasive - but it will definitely be audible to the listener. Overall - a lovely rendition which you couldn't fail to be impressed with.
Cover (Ex-) In lovely condition - particularly considering it's that very sought after wide-spine version. Front and rear look good with just a touch of light fade - but nothing that noticeable. A couple of thumbnail creases each side - no big deal. The interior is immaculate - I doubt you could find better. Edge wear is very minor for this title and the  openings are still sharpish. That all important spine is looking real nice. Many examples will not be up to this standard. It's not perfect - but there's little to pick fault with. A touch of ageing and a couple of minor stress creases - that's all. It's runs square for the entire length - i.e. there's no deformation/crushing. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy-card employed in manufacture.
Inner (Vg+) A three inch side split. A bit of age discolouration in a couple of spots. Overall - very presentable.
Cut-Outs (Ex+) Faultless.
