Artist : THE BEATLES
LP Title : The Beatles (aka 'The White Album')
Label : Apple / PCS 7067-8 / 1968 STEREO
Matrix Numbers : YEX 709-1 [mother: 1 ][stamper: PD ] / YEX 710-1 [mother: 4 ][stamper: HT ] / YEX 711-1 [mother: 1 ][stamper: L ] / YEX 712-1 [mother: 2 ][stamper: GG ]
Notes : Early 1st Stereo Pressing with 'Sold in UK...' and '(P) 1968' text in label centres, but all four labels omit the usual 'An E.M.I. Recording' text.
Fully laminated Garrod & Lofthouse top-opening gatefold sleeve with visible flipbacks inside. Embossed 'The Beatles' title on the front along with album No. 0361194 in the bottom right corner, plus tiny 'Stereo' text to the top rear of the sleeve. Includes four photograph inserts plus the plain spacer sheet and a large folded poster. Each record is housed in its original black die-cut inner sleeve.
Condition : Both records are clean and glossy and have a handful of light hairline marks visible, plus a couple of more noticeable marks, and several more on side-4, however we are playing through both discs now and it plays NM, these marks appear to have little or no affect on the quality, with light of evidence of static nearer the end of side-4. It's a lovely warm sharp sound, fantastic stereo quality - really great sounding vinyl!
The gatefold sleeve has a visible dent to the bottom right corner which also shows a little laminate loss, the other corners have a little rubbing. There are a handful of very small laminate edge lines and two thumbnail lines to the laminate near the tope opening edge, plus three similar laminate lines to the back of the sleeve. The spine has a crease and slight laminate splitting down its centre where the gatefold has been opened and closed over the years. There is a little wear to the top opening edges.
The labels are clean and unworn with traces of light spindle marks to the centres. There is a small blemish to the label on side-4. The black die-cut inner sleeves have some light creasing and wear across the top opening edges and one has tearing to the centre.
The four photographs are in very good condition with some slight corner dings and some light foxing marking to a couple of the white outer borders. The spacer sheet has some light crease marks and foxing/staining marks also. The folded poster has I think at some time been taped up onto a wall, and the original pieces of yellowed tape are still attached along the top and bottom edges, it shows some wear, creasing and foxing in places, and has a 1-inch tear on the top edge and a 3-inch tear on the bottom edge. Some notes have been written in pencil next to the lyrics of one song on the back of the poster.
A nice numbered and complete version of the 'White Album' that sounds fantastic!
