Description
THE FIRST LP:
Here is a rare piece of Beatlemania. It is an interview LP used to promote the Beatles' movie "Help!"
It is an open-end interview LP with the Beatles and has a United Artists light blue/gray label showing "UA 126" in the runout area.
This record was sent out to only a few major radio stations across the U.S.
(There was also a similar interview disc as this issued by United Artists for "A Hard Day's Night" the years before. Try finding THAT ONE!)
A script was provided and the radio station DJ could pretend he had the Beatles in his studio and could ask them questions about their new movie- "Help!".
Example: The script would have said: "How did you come up with the title "Help!?" Then each Beatle discusses why the title "Help!" was chosen.
The script would have said: "How is this movie different from your last movie, "A Hard Day's Night?" Then Paul, George and John and answer why "Help!" is different. (John says "Help" is an actual movie while he says "A Hard Day's Night" was just a documentary!)
There are dozens of comments spoken by each Beatle and, of course there lots of Beatles craziness! You will hear lots of Beatles chatter that you never heard before in this half hour disc!
You will hear the complete songs: "Help," "You're Going To Lose That Girl," "The Night Before" and "I Need You," although they are in Low-Fi on this disc.
This interview disc is one-sided and runs 29 minutes and 50 seconds. Side Two is blank.
As far as condition, I viewed it in the Summer sun and I would I would grade it visually as VG+. I play tested the entire disc and it played all the way through without no problem.
At the beginning there as a slight and low dull sound at the same point with every rotation of the disc, but that ends about 30 seconds into the record. Listening to it, you will hear some surface noise and clicks and pops SOMETIMES, but at all times those things do not interfere with the Beatles speaking or the songs they play. The LP is in very nice shape and sounds great, considering that it might have been played a few times by an actual radio station during the height of Beatlemania!
I never got the script, and it is not included here, but you can imagine, as I did, the questions asked before the Beatles 'reply.' It's really easy!
This interview disc is listed on Page 122 of the great Cox/Daniels Beatles price guide. The disc alone, without the script is valued at $3000.00! If the script were present, it would add only another $100.00 to the total and make the two pieces worth $3100.00. And those are prices from 2007!
THE SECOND DISC
Next is the Capitol Records PROMO LP for the Beatles' "Help!" LP issued in August, 1965. Like other true Capitol Promo LP's, the word 'PROMO' is drilled right through the upper right corner of the cover. This is the Mono version of the LP. I saw a couple of light scratches on the surface of the vinyl but they are so light that I could not hear them when I played the disc. I heard silence in the lead-in grooves and in the grooves between the cuts.
Prices for this Promo copy have been as high as $350.00. ------- I will mail these discs to the winner by USPS and will have it posted as "Restricted Delivery" only. So, the winner will have to provide their own photo ID in order to receive it from USPS. That protects both the winner and me. Shipping will be included in the price.
