This is the FIRST Vinyl 12" LP EVER MADE with Original Cover! The Father of All 12" Long Play Records! Released August 1948 The Original 1st Issue 1B XLP276/277 Mendelssohn Concerto in E Minor for Violin amd Orchestra Op 64 Nathan Milstein Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra of New York Bruno Walter Columbia ML 4001 - record numbers XLP 276 and XLP 277, pressing number 1B. Columbia stamped these first 12 inch LPs with the XLP for extra long play, not knowing that the 12 inch would become the world standard. The ML 4001 pressing came in this craft paper blue and white top-open envelope for only a few weeks, then Columbia switched to a heavier cardboard side-open sleeve which came in yellow, red or green, all with a Greek column or theater proscenium after a design by Alex Steinweiss. -- Condition of Record is G+/VG for mostly handling impressions with light hairline scuffs. Nothing deep!! Everything is Light which does not cause much of distortion. -- Sleeve is G+/VG for general shelf wear. -- According to the Columbia Records Archive, now held by the Library of Congress, this ML 4001 label was the first 12" LP label and was ordered March 1, 1948. Pictures can be seen for that label at the Columbia Record Archive. +++ This is a Great Gem for the Collector +++ A Great Conversation and Display Piece +++ The First 12" LP that started the whole Vinyl Craze - A Piece of History
