The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan LP UK 1st Stereo Issue Great Press [Ex/Vg+]

An original 1st issue of Freewheelin' in Stereo no less on the UK CBS label. Matrix 1/1. Note the deadwax [which we've tried to illuminate on the labels shots] is showing the Philips pressing credentials "//420" etc etc. Note that in 1963, on 1st release [summer], CBS did not have pressing plant in the UK and genuine 1st pressings were actually manufactured by Philips. This pressing comes from toward the end of the 1st issue period - most likely for the Xmas market [5 months later]. Most importantly, whilst the labels are now showing as the slightly updated CBS design, the deadwax indicates that this copy is definitely pressed by Philips. CBS plant did not go into operation until 1964, so this copy definitely fits into that 1st issue period when the album was still charting [late '63]. This, in itself, is quite a hard find, but then consider for a moment that this is a genuine 1963 stereo pressing! And that folks, is a very very hard find indeed. In '63 stereo was still very much in its infancy and this copy was most likely bought mail order, rather than on the high street. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original uncreditted <STEREO> cover with flipbacks. We also have a 'foreign patents pending' inner sleeve from the time too. So 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-) Whilst Ex might not seem out and out that impressive..I can assure you that a genuine stereo '63 copy playing like this is extremely unusual. Under close inspection we could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback. And, again, lets just reiterate this a FULLY acoustic set with some of THE most famous songs of all time on it. Mostly these original copies surface and are wrecked having been played to death and exhibiting groove-wear. A copy, like this example, has clearly had a careful owner who has not overplayed, or abused it. Quite apart from this copy being a bit of historical rarity it's also more than capable of kicking out some pretty amazing audio. Interference is both minor and infrequent. It plays pretty clean all the way through with just a few isolated crackles in a couple of the super well known tracks on side 1 [e.g. Blowin']. Nothing remotely invasive, or persistent. An absolutely corking rendition that will keep you coming back for more - that's a guarantee!
Cover (Vg+) In great shape particularly given its relative age. The front looks very nice without heavy creasing or wear. Yes, there's a bit of low-level ageing, but it's not visibly that noticeable. The rear is remarkable really - very few examples appear having largely avoided the ageing process. There's ageing to the laminate right at the edges, but the main body of the text looks very impressive indeed. There's edge wear, but it's relatively minor. The spine looks very good with a couple of stress creases. As a result a couple of letters of the album are partially obscured. Overall the cover still retains verygood rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) A bit aged. But no splits.
