Description

An original and genuine 1st press of FREEWHEELIN. You can find copies on-line that purport to be genuine 1st pressing. But one thing we can confidently say wit this title is that 'MOST COPIES WILL NOT BE 1st Press'. Genuine 1st press is actualy quite rare to find, and in decent condition...rare as hens teeth. Matrix 1/1. So, what make a genuine 1st press of FREEWHEELIN' - well, it needs to be pressed by PHILIPS. CBS did NOT have pressing plant in the UK in 1963. So, for genuine 1st press you must have Philips credentials in the dead-wax...""V420 L1/L2" etc. Labels MUST mention 'recording 1st pub'. ANY copies that don't - they are CBS pressings from '64!!!. The heavy-set vinyl comes in an original 1963 Mono cover. We are housing in a mid-sixties lined inner.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen relatively light use - particularly given the vintage. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of light marks per side, and a couple of superficial trails -  but nothing heavy or that would cause much trouble from this heavy pressing. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations per side. Intros and inbetweens are lovely and quiet and the audio comes across with excellent clarity. 'Blowin In The Wind' even on decent looking copies rarely plays well. This is one of the best renditions of this often heavily played and super fussy track.  A couple of slight ticks [low in mix] in a couple of spots in 'MOW'. Pretty minimal and not distracting. This track still plays superb. A couple of minor ticks in a couple of spots 'Highway' & 'Hard Rain' and the odd crackle here and there. Again - not upfront or distracting. Four or Five very low in the mix ticks early in 'Think Twice' & in 'Dylan Dream'. Nothing unpalatable - just being as critical as I can be. VERY unusual to hear these super fussy early Dylan tracks play nice and clean for such large portions. Usually even well cared for copies exhibit distortion in the signal [consistently]. Little to grumble at really. A very high standard by and large.
Cover (Ex-) Absolutely astonishing really...not sure I've witnessed one looking like this. A bit of a marvel. Lovely shiny front without ageing and totally flat - barely a crease. The rear is a total time traveller - hardly a whiff. It seems to have totally avoided the ageing process. Just a couple of very low level blemishes on the right side. Slight crease bottom right. I can't begin to tell you how unusual it is to find one like this. Truly amazing....Flipbacks are secure with no damage. Spine is 100% intact - immaculate. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity. 
Inner (Vg+) Some ageing.  Bag present. No splits
