Description
This is an original boxed stereo copy of LIB on the UK Decca label from Xmas-1969. Matrix 1W/6W. Label design is consistent with what you'd find in the period immediately after the unboxed design was phased out - the design is in flux! The first clue is the larger font...akin to the size used on the unboxed copies from just a month earlier. But the most significant indicator that this is a late-69 transitional pressing is that inverted tape number above the catalogue number on side 1. The inverted tape numbers are a throwback to the sixties and disappear for good over the winter. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original cover printed by Upton with pinched spine - these are the 1st issue covers with the format peep hole. There's a poster sticker on the front [as are only found on early original covers], but the poster is absent. Also included is an original blue and white Decca inner sleeve from the time - it is not THE bespoke LIB inner though.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) In very nice condition and has only seen light to moderate use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks either side and the odd superficial trail - nothing feelable or remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are pretty much silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. The audio quality is stunningly as you'd expect from an early Decca pressing. Even 'Love In Vain'..the test track...plays pretty much perfectly. Interference is very minor and infrequent. All we could detect was just a faint touch of static briefly in the intros to 'You Got The Silver' & YCAGWYW, but even this is minor and fleeting.. A stunning little player with very little to find fault with.
Cover (Ex) LIB is a really difficult cover to find in top condition - particularly that unprotected rear. This example has a lovely shiny front which is exhibiting nothing more than a couple of stress creases at the edge. The rear looks great and seems to have mostly avoided the ageing process. All I can make out are a couple of tiny creases and some super-light handling. Edge wear is very light for this title and the spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex) No splits. Minimal ageing.
