Description
The Rolling Stones debut LP '2.52' Tell Me, Mona, Decca LK 4605 unboxed mono 1A
Very early pressing of The Rolling Stones' 1st LP on Decca
Original unboxed mono red label Decca release with grooved label
This very early print run includes the matrix endings 1A / 2A and the short version of 'Tell Me', sometimes referred to as the '2:52' version because this is when the track fades outs. This was a mistake corrected on later print runs with the much more common 4.00+ version.
When I found this copy it was without an inner sleeve, so its scuffed and marked in places (see photos). I have cleaned the disc on my Loricraft PR4 and added an original polylined pink mono inner from the period, in addition to a brand new antistatic inner.
Because the disc was stored without an inner sleeve there are many light marks on the vinyl but these do not cause skips or jumps. There is a little crackle, noticeably between tracks, but the music is loud and drowns this out on my Sony transcription deck (with Shure M75). It is still a decent enjoyable spin. Decca monos from the 60s were superbly mastered and thick vinyl pressing so light surfaces marks do no cause too many audio problems compared with similar weight marks on later, thinner 70s and 80s presses.
Vinyl: Visually graded G+.
Audibly graded VG, with a some light surface noise in places, mostly only noticeable in the quiet passages, like the run in groove. It is still an enjoyable spin, and the music shines through.
I have a full recording of both sides of the disc, contact me for the link. The first to do so will probably buy it.
Inner sleeve: There was no inner sleeve when I found the record, so I have added a fresh pink mono inner, polylined. See photos, it is VG+ condition with no obvious damage.
Outer sleeve: G+, poor shape, with pen and tears (see photos)Matrix: XARL - 6272 - 1A / XARL - 6271 - 2A (see photos)
