From the archive of noted James Brown historian, Alan Leeds. This is a super rare - only known surviving copy - test record of the UNISSUED King LP 1126 - THESE ARE THE J.B.'S by James Brown's 1970 band including Bootsy and Catfish Collins.
King LP 1126 was scheduled for release in January, 1971, but was cancelled before any retail copies were pressed.Includes original credits typed on James Brown Productions LETTERHEAD!
With two singles under their belt ("The Grunt" and "These Are The J.B.'s"), Brown filled out the album with two marathon tracks from the same session during which he cut his hit "Super Bad". "I'll Zee" is an instrumental remake of Marva Whitney's "It's My Thing" featuring JB on organ. "When You Feel It" is a medley ,of songs the band played on tour, Kool and the Gang's "Let The Music Take Your Mind", The Meters' "Chicken Strut" and Jimi Hendrix' "Power Of Soul".
The personnel consists of Clayton "Chicken" Gunnels & Hasaan Jamison:trumpets; Robert "Chopper" McCullough:tenor sax; Phelps "Catfish" Collins:guitar; Bootsy Collins:bass; Frank "Kash" Waddy:drums; Johnny Griggs:congas. James Brown plays organ on "I'll Zee". On "These Are The J.B.'s" St. Clair Pinckney plays flute and baritone sax, and Clyde Stubblefield:drums replaces Waddy. On "The Grunt" Bobby Byrd plays piano.
Test pressings were only distributed to King Records and James Brown Productions execs thus pressed in very small numbers. Few survived as most were eventually scrapped so they can be considered very rare.Plain yellow label.......release number and artist credit hand written in blue ink on one side.
