Description

In this auction:

·       LP Title: “RUNT” by Todd Rundgren

·       This is Todd Rundgren’s first after departing NAZZ.

·       It has become a LANDMARK LP as Todd Rundgren’s first solo LP and marked the beginning of his career as a solo artist (post-Nazz and pre-Utopia).

·       This is AMPEX RECORDS A-10105 (in stereo).

·       This LP was released in 1970.

·       This is the original AMPEX pressing of the LP, not the later Bearsville Records pressing.

·       RED STICKER on Shrink Wrap promotes Todd’s hit single “We Gotta Get You A Woman” on this LP.

·       The LP features Todd’s hit single “We Gotta Get You A Woman”, as the song title reads on the red cover sticker on the shrink wrap, or “We Got To Get You A Woman” as the song title reads on the rear cover listing of LP tracks.

·       THIS IS THE VERY RARE VERSION OF THIS LP WITH 12 TRACKS ON THE VINYL BUT ONLY 10 TRACKS LISTED ON THE LABELS AND REAR COVER!!! Just check your Goldmine Price Guide to see what I mean.

·       “STERLINGis pressed in the trail-off vinyl on both sides. I understand that this identifies the vinyl as original and not a counterfeit/bootleg copy.

·       THE COVER IS GRADED NEAR MINT! The cover is still in its original shrink wrap with a 2-inch x 3-inch section of the shrink missing at the top right corner. As already mentioned, the red sticker that states “Featuring WE GOTTA GET YOU A WOMAN” is on the shrink wrap. The shrink wrap has a “breathe hole” on the front cover that was typical of shrink wrap of the 1960s and 1970s.

·       I primarily visually grade the LPs I auction, but I particularly wanted to listen to this one due to the extra tracks and alternate mixes on some cuts. I listened to both sides of this LP. Visually grading the vinyl, it would grade it VG+. However, play-grading the vinyl did not agree. The VINYL (for the most part) upon listening to it DOES grade at VG+. HOWEVER, I HAVE TO grade it VG only because there are noticeable pops at the beginning of the first cuts on both sides and a few pops here and there elsewhere during playing.

·       NEVERTHELESS, it’s a RARE LP that is tough to find in any condition. Here’s why (courtesy of Wikipedia):

Upon its release in June 1970 the album was issued with 10 tracks. After "We Gotta Get You a Woman" became a hit single, Ampex decided to press more copies of the LP in November 1970 to keep up with demand. A rejected 12-track master of the LP was accidentally sent to the pressing plant resulting in approximately 5,000 mis-presses. Instead of throwing out the LPs, Ampex decided to sell them anyway, unmarked, as a sort of surprise to the purchaser.

The Track Listing on the typical pressing of this LP is:

Side One

1.    "Broke Down and Busted" - 4:32

2.    "Believe in Me" - 2:04

3.    "We Got to Get You a Woman" [styled "We Gotta Get You a Woman" as a single and on Bearsville pressings] - 2:52

4.    "Who's That Man" - 2:59

5.    "Once Burned" - 2:09

6.    "Devil's Bite" - 3:53

Side Two

1.    "I'm in the Clique" - 4:57

2.    "There Are No Words" - 2:12

3.    "Baby Let's Swing"/"The Last Thing You Said"/"Don't Tie My Hands" - 5:28

4.    "Birthday Carol" - 9:14
