Description

Up for auction is an ultra rare LP titled THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS SING SONG 1963, recorded on the AUSTIN RECORDS label, and manufactured by Austin Custom Records.  The genre of music on the LP is Choral, which was recorded before a live audience, and sung by select members of UT Fraternities and Sororities in an annual competition.  I'm not certain, so I am going to assume that the NATIONAL CHAMPIONS reference on the front of the jacket is in reference to the fact that The Longhorns won their first NCAA National Football Championship in 1963 under the leadership of the legendary Darrell K. Royal.  #1 ranked Texas defeated #2 ranked Navy, which was led by Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach, in the Cotton Bowl Classic on January 1, 1964 by the score of 28-6.  Back in the day, the National Football Champion was selected before the final game of the football season between the #1 and #2 ranked football teams.

It's really special, but not surprising, that the labels and the vinyl on this LP are the color orange, and even if this genre of music is not what you listen to, imagine how cool this LP jacket and the orange colored vinyl record would look framed next to each other and hung in your office, or your man cave in your home...talk about a conversation piece!  And the sensational photo of the UT Tower, glowing in orange, is as vivid today as it was back in 1963 when this LP was released!  I don't know how many copies of this highly collectible LP were made, but it couldn't have been more than a few hundred, because it was a private label record, and it would be a pretty safe bet that you would be the only one of your inner circle of UT buddies to have one of these treasures...talk about bragging rights!!

The jacket receives a grade of VG+, only because of the writing on the back...other than the writing, this jacket is in pristine condition.  The LP receives a grade of NM, as this record has only been played a few times, and the sound is sensational.  As can be seen in the images, the labels are also in pristine condition.
