 V/A “Missa Javanica” LP (Philips c. 1968/ORIGINAL!!)

This is one of the oddest albums I’ve ever heard: the music of the Roman Catholic mass, but performed in the Javanese language with native-written arrangements for the traditional Javanese gamelan (classical music ensemble featuring tuned gongs, flute, and drum). The result is a very captivating and hypnotizing sound, with a pulsating, almost ominous, but always very beautiful, otherworldly atmosphere. I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything quite like this before.

Condition: Record is VG+ to VG. The sleeve is VG+ with a bit of storage wear. There is a promo sticker affixed to the center label.
