Description
What It Is:
This is a mono copy of the Velvet Underground's first album, The Velvet Underground & Nico. It has the rear "torso" cover (the upside-down projection of Eric Emerson), indicating a first pressing. The cover has some wear, and someone started peeling the banana, and ripped off the top (leaving a somewhat obscene image). The back, showing the torso, has lost a lot of ink particularly over the band's pictures on the bottom. Though there is some surface noise, the pressing sounds great and atmospheric. See the Condition section for more details.

front: VG dirty ring wear, banana missing top 2", ripped for about 3" in the middle
rear: VG-/G+ The top half has a little dirty wear around the edge (not very noticeable over the torso picture), but the problem is lots of missing ink over the pictures of the band along the bottom (worse on the right), which extends up a little into the bottom of the torso picture. The bottom of the back shows lots of dirty ring wear. The lost ink and bottom wear look like they were caused by the jacket being stuck to something else (another sleeve?) which pulled the paint off when someone separated them. record: (visual) VG+ some hairlines and a few scratches, more on side 2. moderate number of spindle marks
(play graded) VG+: Some surface noise, particularly closer to the beginning of the sides. A few pops, more on side 2.
Grading standards:
All items are visually graded, and if they've been play graded that will be noted. I follow Goldmine grading standards. My grading is conservative, at least as good as I would expect from anyone that I would buy from.Payment:
I accept PayPal or personal checks (personal checks must clear before I ship). If you must return the item, it must be in the same condition that I sent it, but I will refund your full purchase price and return shipping cost within the USA (outside of the USA, I'll refund the bid price, but you must pay for return shipping unless I've made a serious error, in which case I'll pay shipping too) -- I guarantee your satisfaction.Shipping cost and Insurance:
Within the USA: I ship via the US Postal Service, priority and media mail. Costs are based on the shipping weight and package size. Please contact me for shipping to other locations. As always, if your winning bid is above $50, I will pay for insurance within the USA.Outside of the USA: I'm willing to ship outside of the USA, cost based on the winner's address and size and weight of the package. I usually insist on airmail for reasonable delivery time and better handling. I state the shipping size and weight in the ad so that you'll have an idea of cost, though final determination of shipping cost will occur when the auction completes. Unfortunately I can't offer free insurance as it often gets quite expensive for overseas shipment, however, I strongly advise that you select insurance as I cannot be responsible for delivery in another country.
A note about customs declarations: I will mark all auction wins as merchandise and list the winning bid as its value. Please don't ask to have it marked as a gift, or at a lesser price -- that only risks legal action (because it is fraud), and if customs opens the item they will probably charge you a customs fee anyway if they think that it goes over the legal value of a gift.
Thanks for looking and bidding!
