Description
So, I have a bit of a habit of acquiring every original VU & Nico copy I can get my hands on and after picking up my sixth (or is it seventh, who's counting) copy of this fantastic record, I was gently nudged/coerced by the wife into selling off a couple copies. I will do my best below to describe what is here as directly and accurately as I can.
First, let's start with the cover. The cover is the original mono (V-5008) Emerson torso cover (1st state). The front cover has the banana completely peeled and is nearly clean with the exception of residue left by the bottom left part of the banana, seen in picture 1. The spine is still very strong with some flaking seen in the middle from Produced to Warhol. The bottom seam is in good shape and in tact. The top seam has significant flaking with a seam split running a little less than halfway on the back gatefold cover. The inside of the gatefold is clean and very presentable with no writing or marks other than a little bit of dampstaining at the bottom. Overall, the cover is VG, in my opinion.
The cover comes with TWO original mono east coast pressings. One of which came originally with this cover another was orphaned at some point and I've included in here. Visually, neither record rises above just G to G+. There are no deep gouges on either copy, but both copies come with many surface scratches and scuffs. The copy originally included with the cover (Pictures 8, 9 and 10) is an enjoyable listen and the surface noise (for me) is never a distraction other than on the intro to each side. Play grading this copy, I would say it is VG. The second copy (Pictures 5, 6, and 7) plays closer to how it looks, with more significant surface noise throughout. I would consider this second copy a nice filler copy and a good match if you happen to have an extra cover. On my set up (Pro-ject Debut Carbon with Ortofon 2mm red cartridge), both copies play through with no skipping.
