Description

INCORRECT COVER WITH THIS LP--The record is in very good, clean playing condition. Label looks great too. The jacket still has most of the shrink wrap on it. John Fahey suddenly caught the ears of folk musicians and many an amateur guitar picker (like myself) when this very limited edition album came out in the 1960's. It's hard to compare to any other music.  His intricate compositions with cascades of mutating phrases sound in a way like what comes out of a big church pipe organ, not a small wooden box with a hunk of solid wood attached to it.
And it definitely sounds "southern"--such as the tunes that might be called dirges since they echo the sorrows of plantation slavery.  We folk groupies had never heard anything like it, lo, 56 years ago. And I haven't since.
It added to the mystique at that time, that an a previously unknown guy from Maryland would record this in Berkeley CA "in the studio of an anonymous benefactor" and then put it out with one of the funkiest, get-to-the-point LP sleeves of all time.  Clearly, somebody with good taste and money had discovered this brilliant guitarist and composer.
