Description
Here's a set of very well preserved, extremely rare artifacts from 1901: a pair of 7" 78 rpm Victor Monarch shellacs containing recordings by the Black Vaudeville duo George Walker and Bert Williams. Judging by the partly handwritten labels, I believe these are what we would later call test pressings. Though I had trouble discerning the writing, it helps that each performance begins with a stentorian announcement of the artist and song title: "Jeanne" and "Her Name's Miss Dinah Fair," each with Walker singing to Williams' piano accompaniment. I have given them each a gentle spin and they sound very good; the loud hiss typical of records like this does not obscure the recording on either disc. I am hesitant to grade records this old, so please judge the by the pics above and note that neither one has cracks, chips, deep scratches or other notable damage.
I am experienced in packaging shellac records; I use the "floating" method and have never had one damaged in transit.
