14" Black label Victor Deluxe Special Record 41009. Victor Grand Concert Band playing the Overture to von Suppé's PIQUE DAME. Victor 14" records were introduced in March of 1903 in the 2000 series and were renumbered in September in the 41000 series. They apparently ended production early in 1904. Sales were poor. This fact, combined with the large size, has resulted in few surviving. This originally appeared as 2001 (in matrix) and was the first record in the series.
The disc is in relatively clean condition. There is light greying causing some light edginess in sound, but no heavy greying or blasting. No defects. The large 5" label is clean, just a few minor marks (see photo). As with all 14" records, there is a small white tag affixed to the back stating, "By adjusting governor to permit of but 60 revolutions per minute, you will obtain the best results from this record." I purchased a group of these at a MUCH higher price than the minimum would reflect (most have been sold), but I'd rather that they be with collectors who will appreciate them, rather than have them sitting here collecting dust.
I've been safely packing and shipping records for several decades and have specially made boxes and packing materials for 14" discs. Media mail charge for one 14" record is $4.50 or $8.00 via Special Handling, both with delivery confirmation. Overseas shipping (now Air Mail only from the U.S.) is $18.00.
