The ART BLAKEY QUINTET - A NIGHT AT BIRDLAND
Great condition copy of this highly collectable and eminently presentable 1950's US Blue Note rarity with the stunning MONO sound quality being a true highlight.
Year/Label : 1958/9 US BLUE NOTE Label number : BLP 1521 Matrix numbers : BNLP-1521-A, BNLP-1521-B (etched), with "RVG", Plastylite "P"/ear and "9M" each etched on both sidesGleaming jet black sheen excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl, weighty and completely flat - if you look really closely under a bright light you may be able to just detect two or three very faint and purely superficial scuff lines but that's it! Clearly, this record has been very sparingly played. Each label is in excellent (EX) condition - unmarked apart from a couple of very small and very mild age related brown spots, and if you look very closely it is just possible to detect a couple of very faint and small spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. Note the "47 West 63rd" text on each label along with the circular "deep groove" - both synonymous with very early Blue Note 1st pressings of this record. Excellent plus (EX+) condition original thick cardboard outer sleeve with all of the colours, art work, photos and text remaining impressively and beautifully intact. Each edge remains rigid and completely devoid of any scuffing whatsoever, each corner remains a perfectly defined right angle with barely any rubbing at all, and the spine remains rigid with all spine text fully intact. The reverse side is equally impressive with just a few very,very light and small age/storage/handling marks only, and the very light residue of where a sticker once was at the top left corner. Remarkable condition for a 64 year old classic such as this! Near mint (NM) MONO audio quality with no clicks, skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, interference or distortion and background crackle is non-existent. Great tone and crystal clear audio quality throughout - stunning! Every track remains a great listen with legendary musicians ART BLAKEY, CLIFFORD BROWN, HORACE SILVER, CURLY RUSSELL, and LOU DONALDSON each at the top of their game. Comes with original BLUE NOTE inner sleeve with no seam splits, no tears or rips, just some mild creasing in two of the corners and remaining fully legible and fully functional. Note the "43 West 61st St., New York 23" text at the bottom of the reverse side of the outer sleeve - another very early Blue Note pressing identifier. There are light brown strips at the edges where it seems a previous owner used tape of to provide extra protection to the record and help prevent seam splits - it worked! Hard to believe that this record is 64 years of age - especially in condition, and retaining audio quality, as truly impressive as this - amazing!

Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
