Here is Blues Singer Ruth Day on Columbia 14642-D. Side A is "Painful Blues." Side B: "Experience Blues.'
Description: On this record, Ruth Day and an uncredited male companion/accompanist banter back and forth in a kind of call and response dialog and rhythm with Miss Day in song and the man in talk. There seems to be genuine rapport and affection between them and the atmosphere is warm and easy. I don't throw around the word "rare" casually. This record is rare! The notes with this record in my collection (from 78 Quarterly) state that there is/was only one copy known to exist. I've had in place an automated ebay search for "Ruth Day" for about a decade and only one copy appeared in that time (in rough condition).
Condition: This record is in Excellent Condition! Side A is visually E- while Side B is maybe a hair below that at E--. More importantly, both sides play through beautifully and sound excellent in every way! Side B has a couple of small needle digs, some very minor scratches, and one very light 2" scratch. None of that sounds, though, or barely so if at all. What surface noise there is on either side is very light and background constant, while the music is beautifully recorded. Both voices (and guitar) are well captured and have plenty of body and detail. An Absolutely Beautiful, Rare Record. A Treasure!
Record plays flat, there are no skips or jumps nor other defects or distractions not listed. My grading is based on the following scale: P, V, or E. +/- and occasionally ++/-- P = unplayable, E = almost like new. I've sold & shipped well over 100 78rpm records on ebay over the years without a single complaint about condition or satisfaction.
