Description
This is NOT the recording heard on the famous "Frank Sinatra Sings for Only the Lonely" album. The LP version was matrix #E-19241, take 3, recorded May 29, 1958, with orchestra arranged by Nelson Riddle, but conducted by Felix Slatkin (uncredited at the time) filling in for Mr. Riddle. The version on this mono acetate is an earlier, complete attempt at the song and arrangement, matrix #E-18955, take 8, recorded on May 5, 1958, with Nelson Riddle conducting his own arrangement, which on this earlier version includes an upward-climbing, minor key intro, woodwinds on top, French horn in the middle, low brass moving downward in a resigning, funereal fashion: a very atmospheric 10 seconds of Riddle creativity, not heard on the later, official release. Bill Miller's piano noodling (I assume it's Miller -- it sounds like him) is more prominent on this version than on the released one. No songs from this May 5 session have ever been released. To my knowledge, they have never even turned up on bootlegs, making this is a true Sinatra rarity. Item will be well packed, insured, and tracked.
