Description

An original 1st stereo press of 'In Memphis' on UK RCA from spring 1969. At first glance it might just look like a standard seventies copy - but it is NOT! It is a genuine early summer '69 copy. This was the BIG re-launch of Elvis. Instead of being pressed on flimsy mid 70's stock this bad-boy is heavy pressed sixties stock. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original stereo cover with pinched spine. We also have an original Decca inner date coded to May-69 - just a couple of months prior to 1st release. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Vg+) In excellent condition and has only seen relatively light use. Under close inspection I can only make out a couple of lightest marks per side - nothing troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with one deviation. A real sweet player - this is no flimsy 70's reissue. It's actually from when Elvis was doing the whole leather clad re-launch and still capable of the early magic. By and large a lovely clean player with lots of depth. The only track which was marginally sub-par is 'Hold You In My Heart'. I'm getting a bit of back ground crackle in the odd spot. Nothing upfront - this track just won't play clean like the rest of the LP.  A few crackles early in 'Back Limo' - no biggy at all. 'Ghetto' plays superb and clean. A copy which is more than capable of capturing Elvis back on form. A bit of a cracker!
Cover (Ex-) A beautifully clean glossy front - just a coupe of thumbnails. The rear looks real nice and doesn't seem t have aged. Tiny sticker removal mark top right corner - otherwise aok. Minimal edge wear and sharp opening. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing. Bag present. No splits.
