Description

Gate (Michael Morley of The Dead C)- The Lavender Head double LATHE CUT LP (Precious Metal)
NUMBERED EDITION OF 20 COPIES

Numbered 16 of 20 copies, this is the original private press double LP in the series of releases Michale Morley titled The Lavender Head.

This is hand numbered and signed by Morley with the date 7.1.97 (January 7th, 1997).

The records were hand cut by Peter King in Geraldine New Zealand. It would be issued later in a limited edition black vinyl LP on Hell's Half Halo, that edition is long out of print.

The set features a hand screened cover (gatefold with blank inside folds) and a handwritten spine. The numbering and signing are on the inside insert, a photocopied titles sheet.

allmusic.com says of Gate:
Gate is a free noise project of New Zealander Michael Morley, which began in the mid-'90s. Morley, who has also played in Dead C. and Precious Metal Inc., performed the thick, sonic improvisations that are characteristic of Gate on a tour with Keiji Haino and Thurston Moore in 1994. One of Gate's more widely available recordings, Live in Boston/NYC 1994 (Poon Village), comes from that year and features Lee Ranaldo and Zeena Parkins. Ranaldo and Morley also recorded in the studio, although this material has yet to be released. Gate has several subsequent releases on the Table of the Elements label, including Monolake (1997) and The Wisher Table (1999), as well as other releases on smaller independent labels such as Go For It and Siltbreeze.

allmusic.com says of The Lavender Head:
This LP-only release marks a drastic turn in direction for New Zealand noise artist Michael Morley. With his Gate solo project and as a member of the group Dead C, he spent the '80s and '90s deconstructing rock music by trying to turn it inside out. After a series of albums in a feedback guitar mode on Table of the Elements, this release is his first foray into abstract breakbeat electronica. At times recalling the '90s Mille Plateaux groups Gas and Techno Animal while at others appearing as a computer-constructed equivalent of the avant rock of his previous work, Lavender Head is an interesting album, though possibly a little overstated as a double LP of fuzzy breakbeats and drone textures.

LP's is in MINT condition (lathe discs are hand cut and as such do not have the fidelity of a well mastered vinyl record)/cover is MINT- with a small tear 5mm on the bottom front cover. As with all of the 20 lathe discs, this one has a hand screened cover and some slight smearing of the paints.
