LP : Hideo Shiraki Quintet + 3 Koto Girls - Sakura Sakura / Japan meets Jazz

German 1971 pressing on MPS/BASF, CRM 613. This is the second pressing of the SABA edition from1965, the cover artwork is still the same except for the MPS-logo instead of SABA, the beautiful foldout-cover is made of heavy cardboard and it's laminated on the outsides. Extensive linernotes in German and English inside the FOC. Recorded in Berlin, November 1, 1965, one of the earliest recordings mixing jazz and traditional Japanese music. 3 tracks are based on Japanese traditional compositions, of the remainig 3 tracks one is by K.Yashiro ( former piano-player of the Shiraki 5tet) and the other two are by Terumasa Hino, who makes one of his first recordings. The beautiful track „Alone, Alone And Alone“ became one of his most famous compositions, it appeared for the first time on the BLUE NOTE LP from 1965 „Blue Mitchell – Down With It“. B.Mitchell had played in Japan in early 1965 and was introduced by T.Hino to the tune, the version heard on „SAKURA, SAKURA“ is the second recorded version.

The quintet performs high quality modal jazz, beautiful quieter parts alternate with strong hard-bop, T.Muraoka's soprano-sax on „Yosakoi-Bushi” is very deep as is T.Hino's playing on “Alone...”. The 3 koto-girls are featured and 4 of the 6 tracks.

Condition: the record looks mint- in daylight & in normal artificial light, it looks mint-- to ex++ under a very strong halogen lamp ( very few very tiny superficial sleeve-lines). I've listened carefully to the complete record on my REGA PLANAR 9 with EINSTEIN TU 3 MC cartridge and on my LINN AXIS with DENON MC: it plays in mint- all of the time, even in all of the the quietest koto-parts.

The heavy cardboard foldout-cover shows just slight shelfwear, all seams/spine are intact and show no rub, front & back are fine with just a hint of slightest shelfwear, the inner is fine with just a very little discolouring in very few parts in the upper area, the lower right corner is moderately bumped, the lamination is completely intact; overall ex-. Please look at all 10 photos.

Zustand: die LP sieht bei Tageslicht & unter einer normalen Lampe mint- bis mint-- aus, unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe sieht sie mint-- bis ex++ aus ( einige wenige sehr dünne oberflächliche Sleeve-Lines). Ich habe die komplette LP konzentriert sowohl auf meinem REGA PLANAR 3 mit EINSTEIN TU 3 MC System als auch auf meinem LINN AXIS mit DENON MC angehört: sie spielt durchgehend in mint-, auch in den leisesten Koto-Parts.

Das schwere Papp-Klappcover ist hat nur ganz leichte Lagerspuren, alle Kanten sind intakt und ohne Abrieb, Vorder- & Rückseite sind sehr schön erhalten mit nur einem Hauch von Altersspuren, das Innere ist sehr schön bis auf ein paar vereinzelte ganz leichte Dunkelungen im oberen Bereich, die untere rechte Ecke ist mäßig gestaucht, die Lamimierung ist komplett intakt; insgesamt in ex- . Bitte alle 10 Fotos anschauen.

Alle Platten wurden professionell gereinigt, entweder von mir (Hannl Mikro) oder von den Vorbesitzern (Okki Nokki, Loricraft o.Ä.). Anschließend wurden sie nur wenige Male abgespielt bzw. nur einmal von mir zum Bewerten angehört (komplett oder in Ausschnitten). Optische Bewertung erfolgt in Tageslicht, in normalen Kunstlicht & unter einer sehr hellen Halogenlampe. Platten kommen mit neuer hochwertiger Innenhülle & in einer Schutzhülle. Bitte beachten: auch prof. gereinigte Platten können einige Staubpartikel haben; “eingefangen” während optischer & akkustischer Bewertung, Fotografieren oder den wenigen Abspielungen der Vorbesitzer.

Grading & Cleaning:

• all records have been cleaned on a professional record cleaning machine, either by me (Hannl Mikro) or by the pre-owners (Okki Nokki, Loricraft or the like). After cleaning the records have been played just a few times (or only once by me for playgrading)

• I playgrade each record (completely or at least in parts) on my Rega Planar 9, high-end Moving Coil cartridge by EINSTEIN/ EMT TU-3 SFL (please consider that the playback might differ a bit depending on your own equipment)

• I also visually grade cleaned records in daylight, in normal artificial light & under a strong halogen lamp

• only an unplayed record is mint, my highest grading for a used record is mint- . My basic gradings are: mint – ex – vg

• cleaned records are stored in a new pro innersleeve and they are placed in a PVC protection-sleeve

• pl. note: even pro cleaned records may have received some dust particles during visual-/play-grading, photographing or few pre-owner playbacks
