Description
This is a beautiful example of 'Axis : Bold as Love' by The Jimi Hendrix Experience from 1967. It's a UK pressing on the original Track Records label (catalogue no. 612 003). It includes the difficult to find gatefold orange lyric sheet. The music is absolutely superb and it is becoming increasingly difficult to find such a superb example of this rare mono recording with lyric insert.
OUTER SLEEVE : This is a gatefold type, laminated on the outside. It is in absolutely beautiful condition with virtually no wear or creasing. The edges and spine are in almost perfect condition. There is no wording along the spine.The inner portion of the sleeve states at the top right hand corner - 'Cover designed by David King & Roger Law. Photograph by Donald Silverstein'. At the bottom of the sleeve on the right hand side it states - 'Printed and made by Ernest J. Day & Co. Ltd. London. Manufactured by POLYDOR RECORDSLTD> LONDON - 612003 MONO - 613003 STEREO'. I've graded the sleeve Ex++.
INNER BAG : This is the standard polythene lined die-cut type which states at the bottom of one side in blue wording - 'PLASTIC BAGS CAN BE DANGEROUS...ETC. - British patent No. 800513 & 973939 - MADE IN ENGLAND 1172 46'. I've graded the inner bag Ex+.
LYRIC INSERT SHEET : This is a one-sided gatefold type. It has an orange background and red wording for all the lyrics to the songs on the LP. It's in superb condition and has been graded Ex++.
RECORD : The record looks very clean with very minor surface marks. It has a shine to it which belies the fact that it's 40 years old. There are some superficial light marks and there is some minor surface noise which can be heard betwen tracks but this doesn't detract from the overall quality of the record. Both sides play through beautifully with the occasional pop and click.
LABELS ; these are in fantastic condition. they are the early 'textured' type used on Track recordings. There are some spindle marks on both labels because the record has been well played. It states around the circumference of each label - 'ALL RIGHTS OF THE MANUFACTURER ANDOF THE OWNER OF THE RECORDED WORK RESERVED - MADE IN GT. BRITAIN - UNAUTHORISED PUBLIC PERFORMANCE BROADCASTING AND COPYING OF THIS RECORD PROHIBITED'. the record was produced by Chas Chandler and the engineer was Eddie Kramer. It states 'A. Schroeder Music Pub. Co. Ltd.' the matrix numbers on the run-off grooves are - side one - 612003 A V 1 127 (I think!) - SIDE TWO - 612003 B V 1 1 1 7. Sorry but some of the matrix numbers are not 100% clear. I've graded the record as Ex+.
