 PRESSINGS

This is being re- listed due to a complete timewaster. Another chance for someone to own this rare and elusive very first UK pressing on the PINK RIM PALM ISLAND Label. Released in 1971,with pre-gothic lettering, this is Jethro Tull's 4th album. Despite what many people think, the 'green label' with the 'white I' is not the first pressing, it is actually the 4th or 5th.( I have had people contact me thinking the green label came first but that is as unfounded as the yellow and black parlophone coming before the gold). It may also be of interest to note that there is a 2nd pressing also on the PINK RIM ISLAND label which has a different type set. And another  that has the classic gothic text. No one knows for certain, the history behind the three PALM ISLAND pressings, although having received several emails from Tull collectors, one theory has it that the Pink Rim Islands had been pressed for export purposes as the PALM ISLAND was still being used in other European countries such as Germany. Still that that does not explain the same exact same matrix number. The sooner record collector brings out an article the better.  Most owners of Aqualung will have a copy of the more common green label pressing in their collection. This is a great opportunity to own a pre-Chrysalis original.

The Vinyl

On side one, there is a light surface crackle, noticeable in the quieter moments, but it does not spoil the listeners enjoyment - particularly as the rest of the side plays through smoothly; no skips or jumps. Visually this has a few surface scratches & one noticeable mark which is purely surface and does not effect the sound. But for this I would describe this vinyl as excellent.

Side Two plays through beautifull. And visually looks excellent to boot.

The fold out textured sleeve printed by E J DAY is in very good condition with no writing rips or tears. It shows light scuffing to the edges, but the spine is very clean and the text is clear and readable. .

The lyric inner bag is here is the first issue square, printed on lightweight paper, the later pressings had the card inner with rounded edges. This particular one is reasonably clean, but it shows some wear and tear - more than acceptable considering its 33 years in the world.

All in all this is a very respectable copy of of a classic album and the winning bidder will not be disappointed. Money back guarantee (less p&p) if not 100% happy with this purchase.

As a collector myself, I know how frustrating and disappointing it is to receive a tatty item which bears very little resemblance to the description given. I try hard to be as accurate as I can when grading, and use all sources available - including the 'Record Collector Grading System.  Not will I neglect to mention glaringly obvious vandalism such as writing on the label or sleeve. Which amazingly have been omitted from a lot of descriptions to purchases I have unfortunately gone on to make!
