UK Pressing with the PINK-RIM ISLAND Label!!!

This is a mega rarity, there's no denying that!

This LP can be found everywhere with the green Chrysalis label, but since when have you ever seen one with the pink-rim Island label?!!?

This LP is almost NEVER seen on the Island label. In 1971 it should have been issued on the Chrysalis label and 99.9% of all copies are. But, for some reason, a very, very tiny handful of UK copies were issued with pink-rim Island labels and are virtually impossible to find! I've found a few reasons as to why some copies were issued with an Island label. The first reason was that it was a manufacturing error and a small handful of copies were mistakenly pressed with Island labels instead of Chrysalis. Another reason was that these were UK export copies to countries that hasn't yet licensed the Chrysalis label and so a small batch of Island copies were printed up. A third reasonwas that, right when this LP was going to press, Chrysalis was becoming an autonomous company and so almost immediately after production began the LP switched from Island to Chrysalis.

Some people are even quoting that just a couple hundred copies were ever issued with the Pink-Rim Island label!

Regardless of the reason though, it doesn't detract from the fact that this is a seriously rare LP and one that is very, very seldomly seen for sale! This is a real opportunity for anyone collecting either Jethro Tull LPs or collecting a full run of Island LPs as this is one variation that you're most probably not going to have, and not going to see for a long time afterward.

The pink-rim Island copy of this LP is, be far, the rarest UK Jethro Tull release! They hardly ever come up for sale and are impossible to find!!

The Cover - VG-

I could have graded this as VG++ but unfortunately there's a tear along the back that runs from the mouth up to the hand on the sitting man - about 7 inches at a guess. Apart from that though the cover is holding up pretty nicely with a rich colour to it. The front has no marks, stains, tears or wear. The top seam has some light wear to it, the bottom has more and has whitened but hasn't split. The spine is a little worn but has no tears. The text has a few spots where it's no longer legible (The J in Jethro and the A on Aqualung) but overall is holding up great. The back, like the front, has no marks, stains, wear etc but does have the aforementioned tear. It's a pretty clean tear though and so might be repairable. I'll leave that up to the winning bidder though. The inner gatefold is beautifully crisp, clean and colourful, and free from wear, tears, creases or stains! This is the EJ Day UK sleeve with a light texture to it and no lamination.

The Inner Sleeve - VG-

The inner sleeve is holding up alright with no major damage to it. It's still very clear and bright but does have a few stain spots on the back. The overflaps have a few little creases on them but nothing bad. The bottom seam is torn - about 6 or so inches in the middle. Is this wasn't there then the condition would have been VG+. Aside from this the inner sleeve is holding up okay.

The Disc - VG

This disc still have a lovely shine to it but unfortunately does have a fair smount of light scuff marks on the playing surface. However, I've just given some of the tracks a play test and the sound that comes off this record is lovely, sharp and clear. In some places there is a slight increase in crackle and the occasional light pop but overall the crackle is hardly audible. Plays really nicely!!

The Labels - NM

Both labels are free from wear, tears, sticker marks, pen marks etc. Side 1 has a few very faint little stains but Side 2 is completely clear. Both labels are ever-so slightly cream and have just a tiny amount of spindlewear around the centerhole. Awesome labels!!!
