Notes: The Kinks: Dave Davies (vocals, guitar); Ray Davies (vocals); Peter Quaife (bass); Mick Avory (drums).Recorded between 1965 and 1967. Liner notes by Frank Smyth. The album that ushered in a new era of Ray Davies' songwriting, 1966's FACE TO FACE finds Davies penning, for the first time, a series of vignettes in the style that would become a staple for the rest of his career. Songs such as "Dandy" (a hit for Herman's Hermits), with its concise portrait of a '60s swinger, are a world away from the raucous rock of early hits like "You Really Got Me." The folky, Indian-influenced "Fancy," which may or may not be a self-portrait, and "Rosie Won't You Please Come Home" (actually written about the Davies brothers' sister) are timeless, precisely crafted sketches, beyond musical fad or fashion, that still resound today. Musically, some serious thought is apparent in the arrangements of songs such as "Too Much on My Mind," and much of the album is conclusive evidence that the rest of the Kinks, in particular guitarist Dave Davies and drummer Mick Avory, were the perfect foil for Davies' songwriting skills. Though the only bona-fide Kinks hit here is the breezy, sardonic "Sunny Afternoon," FACE TO FACE is a seminal Kinks album for its overarching vision and for displaying the first serious manifestations of Ray Davies' burgeoning songwriting talent.

I add new items most days..........please take a look
All items carefully graded audio-visually, and are played on a high quality system.
Please feel able to bid with confidence , as a collector myself I realize the requirements in the gradings of sleeves and discs , and how important it is to recieve items in the condition as advertised in listings , I notice many sellers on eBay using the buzzwords 'Stunning' , 'Superb' , 'Awesome' 'etc etc etc...... and have grossly long-winded descriptions by these 'experts' with sometimes technical information added , which is totally unrelated and untrue to actual facts , and would be laughable , but for for the fact that it is misleading , and tends to hide the fact that the items on offer are only Average/Very Good , substandard items........an 1000 word essay with vague/badly lit photographs on an album does not make what is VG condition into Mint condition.................. I take time and care to grade items correctly and only list quality records........
I have been a lifelong music fan , my first concert visit was in 1957 (Birmingham Town Hall Skiffle Contest!) and have bought records of all the great music since 1959 , and had the privelege of seeing most of the great artists live too (I saw The Beatles twice....)
