POWELL ST. JOHN – Sultan Of Psychedelia. Lysergic Sound Distributors NSKP 4850. FACTORY SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Issued in 2017. Limited edition of 500 copies. Powell created the cover art work featured on the record, front and back, and also includes an insert with more of his artwork and a short biography. The liner notes were written by Bill Bentley.

DESCRIPTION:

Powell St. John is unquestionably one of the true founders and innovators of the Acid Rock Sound. Powell St. John is a well-known figure on the mid-1960s Austin, Texas campus folk/bohemian music scene. He was an occasional member of various Austin rock groups, including The Conqueroo, and he wrote some songs for The 13th Floor Elevators, including You Don’t Know (How Young You Are), which was on their 1966 debut, The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators.

The following comes from Powell St. John talking about the Sultan of Psychedelia release which appears on psychedelicbabymag website:

“Most of the cuts on this release Powell St. John, Sultan of Psychedelia were recorded in 2005 in Austin at Cedar Creek Recording Studios resulting in the CD Right Track Now. The product was never released (commercially) or promoted. Our publishing administrator met the owner of LSD Records, Steve Purdy, at a memorial service for producer Snuff Smith (Garrett I believe), resulting in the release of this album. Three of the tracks came from the digitally released Women Rule and the others are all from Right Track Now. Women Rule was a release of just me (with some exceptions), playing guitar, harmonica, and singing.” The legendary Roky Erickson joins Powell on track nine, Right Track Now. Other artists participating on this album include: John Ike Walton and Ronnie Leatherman of the 13th Floor Elevators, Mary Ann Price from Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, and Frosty Smith, drummer for Lee Michaels, Rare Earth and others. Includes a four-page bio booklet with rare pictures. Limited vinyl pressing of 500.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers with inside packing.

These items are placed inside of a clear poly outer sleeve upon their receipt by me

MIX:  This sometimes appears in my title line and refers to a group's/artist's music having a mix of styles such a rock track with jazz then followed by a straight rock track followed by a psych rock track, etc., as opposed to a blues album with the album's tracks having predominantly one style.

U.S. Shipping: 

$4.90 via USPS Media Mail for the first single LP or double disc LP set (excluding box sets); this also includes tracking. Check your eBay Purchases folder for tracking and shipping information.

$1.25 for each additional single LP set and/or

$1.50 for each additional double LP set.

All US packages are processed for shipping via eBay and include a tracking number. Check your purchases folder to monitor your tracking.
