Description

An original 1st MONO press of HITS on UK Decca from XMas1966. Matrix 1A/3A. Please note that the labels exhibit a Decca deep groove. If your copy doesn't have the deep groove then I'm afraid it is not a true 1st pressing. Reissued a squillion times - but true 1st pressings come from Xmas1966 and have a very specific cover layout. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original MONO gatefold cover with photo pages stapled in. Format indicator should show on the spine ONLY for 1st issue. There should NOT be a peephole on the rear [these are late sixties copies]. The internal photo shot of Jagger is also laminated [not matt] - which you only find on the earliest copies. We also have the original Decca inner from the time date to winter 66/67. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex) In lovely condition and has only seen light careful use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an, at least, EXCELLENT level of playback with just one deviation. Please be aware that these sixties 'hits' records have usually been murdered by this point in time. Take 'Satisfaction' - for instance - this track rarely surfaces playing clean. But I'm pleased to report that this much abused track is left very well preserved and more than capable of impressing.  "As Tears Go by" and 'Lady Jane' are super fussy - but this example is belting them out clean and assured. Very impressive - I haven't better in quite some time. Just one solitary pop in 'Red Roster'. Literally - that's all I can make out. There are many copies out there - but few will knock these tricky tracks out near perfect. Highly recommended!
Cover (Vg+) In very nice condition and has clearly been looked after. Excellent retention of colours and little sign of light fade. There's no lamination lift and just a crease and small ding in bottom right corner. Worth noting that the opening panel retains really good rigidity with a nice firm edge. A crease bottom left on the rear. The interior is looking smart with the photo pages still fully intact and attached. Edge wear is relatively minor. The text on the spine is 95% intact. Just a touch of wear at ends and a stress crease. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg) Tanned. Bag is present. No splits.
