Description
Fancy a really sweet playing early PPM?> Well, you can go down the 'Black and Gold' route of course [a 1st or 2nd] - but this is going to get VERY expensive [c.£500+]. Or you could try and get as close as you damn well can - with much better value. And that's what we have here - a great playing 3rd copy. The 3rd press came immediately after the label change and whilst the album was still climbing towards the NO.1 spot in the charts... worth thinking about<<<<
Please note for third press you need the labels to mention 'Parlophone' in the perimeter text. BUT - for an early 3rd it MUST NOT mention 'Sold In The UK' OR 'Recording 1st Pub'. These copies are so early they often come housed in the original E J DAY 1st issue design with the AMcBean credit on the extreme right [after the blue "S" finishes]. So, if you're in the market for an amazing copy - a really early early copy. THIS copy fits the bill. The vinyl is pressed from super heavy early '63 stock. It comes housed in an original EMITEX inner with correct 'patents applied for'. So we're 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) Absolutely superb and given the vintage - a total marvel. I can make out a couple of very light marks per side - but nothing remotely troublesome. The surfaces are simply stunning - very unusual for a '63 copy. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT+ level of playback with one deviation. Now, don't underestimate that grading. As you can imagine the audio is absolutely to die for. Intros and inbetweens are super quiet and the audio comes across with perfect clarity - by and large. I'm talking about a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side. Those tricky tracks on side Honey/Secret - play beautiful. The one and only thing I could find fault with is just a touch of distortion creeping into the final moments of 'Twist And Shout'. About midway through you start getting a bit of distortion in the dynamic parts where John is practically screaming. Not bad. But audible all the same. He had a sore throat by this point in the recording - and his vocal is raspy. So, not overtly obvious. But will be audible here and there to those who have acute sensibilities. If you're looking for a good value - all time classic copy.. have a good think about this one.
Cover (Vg) Ok, so the cover is no where near as fine looking as the vinyl. But hey - lets put this in perspective for a second. THIS is the genuine very earliest GOLD COVER. The one the Black and Gold copies arrived in. And 1963 EJ DAY covers are hellishly difficult to find in even average condition. Pretty decent looking front with a few minor creases - nothing nasty looking. A bit of wear in places and a few edge stress crease. Again, nothing awful. The rear has aged a bit - but is looking better than many original copies. There is a good bit of wear observable on the top and bottom flipbacks. But please rest assured that the flipbacks are all secure and in place. The text on the spine is fully legible. Expect a bit of wear at either end of the spine as is common. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity in part thanks to the heavy card employed in manufacture.
Emitex (Vg) Bag still present. Aged. No splits.
