Description

An original 1st press of 'BIG HITS' on the UK Decca label from Xmas 1966. Matrix 1A/3A - 1st cut. Please note the Decca deep groove which is indicative of 1st issue. The heavy set vinyl comes housed in an original Mono gatefold cover - not a peephole version like the later copies. This particular example has a laminated inner front page too - which is usually found unlaminated. Also included is the original Decca inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex-/Vg+) In lovely condition and has only seen light to moderate use. Under close inspection we can only make out a few light marks, and a few slight radial marks - nothing heavy or troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly NEAREXCELLENT level of playback with a couple of deviations. Do bear in mind that so so many of these greatest hits LPs have been played to death over the years. Finding a little abused copy is not all that easy. 'Lady Jane' is the test track and it plays very nice and clean [better than you usually find]. And so does 'Tears Go By'. Intros and inbetweens are very nice and quiet and the audio comes across with great clarity. Interference is limited in nature. You might detect a few crackles in a couple of isolated moments per side - but it is a real quality player. The only tracks I picked up a bit of background in were 'Little Red Rooster' , 'Heart of Stone', and 'Come On'. Nothing invasive - still very enjoyable. A very fine rendition overall.
Cover (Vg+) In lovely condition and has been looked after down the years. Nice clean front with vivid colours - no signs of fading. No heavy creasing front or on the rear. The interior looks great too. All pages are still stapled in fine and intact - no signs of heavy thumbing. There's a bit of edge wear apparent. It's only heavy in one small section atop the right hand panel. In the middle, here, it has worn through for two inches. I have tape repaired it internally so it's not too obvious now. All the text on the spine is fully legible. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Ex-) Light ageing. No splits.
