Description
COC69100 An original 1st pressing from 1972 on Rolling Stones Records in the UK. Matrix A1/B1/C1/D2. Both records are etched with 'Rolling Stones Records'. Both records also have the circle with inverted triangle etched into the dead-wax. Any pressing not meeting this criteria is likely to be a later pressing, or a switch. Vinyl weight - 140gs. Both records are housed in the boxed gatefold [thick-card] printed by Shorewood Packaging. Both original coloured inner sleeves also printed by Shorewood are present and have original square corners. Original paper inner sleeves are also present with cut-corners.
Cover (VG+) Has survived the years well and still looks in great condition. Front and back look in really good condition with only some minor fading occurring toward the edges. Please note there is one small sticker mark above the word 'MAIN' on the front cover and also that the print on the cover is slightly miss-aligned giving a slight 3D effect to all characters. The structural integrity of the boxed cover is excellent. It was manufactured with much stiffer cardboard than later pressing and so has been able to withstand the test of time easily. There is a little bit of corner wear, but the edges really are pretty good and the text on the right hand edge is still fully visible. A really nice example of a bona fide original.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex+) This is where things get interesting.....Given that these are original 1st issues from 1972 they are in incredible condition. You can see from the screenshots that they have only seen moderate play - this is very very unusual. A close visual inspection reveals barely a single mark either side - and they are still beautifully shiny. Not only do they look good, but most importantly of all they play good. Folk hold out for these original pressings partly because of the historical interest, but also because they are most probably the best pressings available of this album period - and I can vouch for this having tested these two LP's. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are silent. This is probably the best rendition of E.O.M.S I've heard to date. Barely a hint of interference across all four side [barring the intro to S.V.]. Really top-notch resolution from the cymbals all the way down to the bass-drum. You can really the hear silence behind the music and pick each individual instrument out. There are a few light crackles in the intro to Sweet Virginia, but they are low-level and are not distracting. Setting this aside the rest plays back to a very high standard indeed.
Coloured Inners (Ex) No splits, no markings, no creasings...fully intact without fading.
Inner Sleeves (VG+) No splits or markings. Just some light ageing.
