Description

First released in summer 1970 without EMI logos  - this LP charted well for many months. At Xmas it would have still been around the top of the charts and selling well. This 1st issue comes from that period [Xmas 1970] as it started its final slow decent down the charts and EXHIBITS 2 X EMI logos. Matrix A2/B1 - 1st readily available cut. Stampers 1-GMH/4-GHD [relatively early]. While many copies of In Rock exist - finding a really top example is actually not as easy a find as you might, at first, imagine. Note the 'Gramophone' text in the perimeter text - again indicative of the early copies. Early copies are nearer the masters and pressed on very nice solid vinyl. The vinyl comes housed in original gatefold cover. We also have the original Harvest advertising inner sleeve. So, its 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex/Ex-)  A lovely specimen that has only seen light use. Under close inspection there are a few light marks - nothing heavy or troublesome though. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a mostly EXCELLENT level of playback with two deviations. So, most copies - even the good lookers - often leave you very disappointed. I can't tell you how many average or sub-par copies of this Lp I have [numerous!]. So, when an actually pretty decent copy occasionally surfaces - it often stands out from the crowd. And this copy is in no way perfect - it is just much much better than the typical good looking copy that surfaces. The track that will trip up 99% of copies is - CHILD IN TIME. Incredibly fussy and practically impossible to find perfectly clean. But this example is capable of a very nice and tidy rendition. It's certainly not perfectly quiet - but it is quiet enough that any background is not interfering/distracting. I would describe it as a 'pretty clean player' in this track - which is better than 80% of good copies. Other than that expect a top-level performance... This LP requires power and authority to really deliver a top-level rendition - and there is plenty on offer here. The only slightly noticeable interference I could pick out was in the quiet moments of track 1 [Speed King]. There's just some fleeting/occasional low-level crackle [nothing obtrusive]. I detected a couple of ticks in a couple of moments, and the odd isolated crackle in 'Living Wreck' too. Overall a very fine player. Given the sheer difficulty in finding a great copy of this title - I would argue it is both an excellent player and a difficult find. The drumming at the end of 'RAT' sounds fantastic against a clean backdrop.
Cover (Ex+) The vinyl is really good. The cover is out of this world. It is borderline perfect. Front and back are perfectly clean without creasing or discolouration. The interior always exhibits some level of ageing - but here it is totally clear of ageing and perfectly white [extremely smart]. There's very little edge wear to speak of at all. The spine is 100% intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity. FINAL UPGRADE.
Inner (Vg+) Light ageing in places. No splits.
