Original 1st US pressing of King Crimson’s studio album “In The Court of the Crimson King (An Observation by King Crimson)” released by Atlantic Records on October 10th, 1969. In essence, this debut album represents the first progressive rock record. The album occupies the 2nd spot in The Rolling Stones magazine’s “The 50 Greatest Prog Rock Albums of All Time” behind only Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon”. Original 1st matte textured print thick gatefold cover still remains factory sealed and in marvelous Mint condition with the fully intact shrink wrap containing the original breathe holes. One on each side of the album. Iconic artwork of the cover was created by Barry Godber, a friend of the band’s lyricist Peter Sinfield, and was his only painting as he died at 24 from a heart attack. The front cover contains a very rare clear rectangular promotional “King Crimson” hype sticker with the four-digit catalog number “SD 8245” and Atlantic Records fan logo affixed to the top left corner underneath the shrink wrap. Based on the fact that this sticker can be found only on the very early 1st pressing, it’s most likely that you’ll find inside the original 1st print Atlantic Records orange-green labels with the “1841 Broadway, New York N.Y.” address and four-digit “SD 8245” catalog number. (The reissue has a five-digit catalog number) This example is one of the best copies of this album we've come across with in many years.
