Description
Fancy bagging some Red & Plum magic at a fraction of the price..? There's a way to do it..read on.
An original Q1 1972 copy of Zep IV on the UK Atlantic label. Matrix A3/B4. Etchings "Porky Pecko" & "50008" + "2401012". As Kinney took over the Atantic catalogue at Xmas-71 they started a process of re-cataloguing and changing the label designs. The orange and green label comes immediately after those very sought after red & plum copies. But if you're a smart cookie you'll understand that some of these very early Orange & Green copies actually carry the same audio as the final red & plum copies. How do we know this..? Because the credentials are there for all to see in the dead wax. These early Q1copies hold both the new Kinney catalogue numbers AND the original red & plum catalogue number [2401012] along with the matrix suffix of the final red & plum cut. So, this makes for a much cheaper route to some of that red&plum audio nirvana that everyone wants. Note how the labels do not exhibit any perimeter text in the northern hemisphere and still exhibit the 'Misty Mountain Top' error [all indicative of 1st issue on orange&green]. The heavy-set vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover along with the original lyric inner sleeve. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (Ex+) In superb condition and has clearly seen only the lightest of use. Under close inspection I could only make out a couple of light marks per side - nothing remotely troublesome. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals an EXCELLENT+ level of playback. Intros and inbetweens are pretty much silent and the audio comes across with perfect clarity. It's all very well and good finding a Zep IV that plays well for 70% of the time. What you really need, and what's a more difficult task, is to find one that plays clean the whole way through. Even in those ever popular low-key tracks like Stairway. And what you have here is a clean player...the whole way through..and the audio is effectively identical to a red&plum copy from a month earlier. So, what does this achieve from an audio perspective? Well, it means you are going to a bag a copy that will rival any other copy out there on the market. The audio is dreamy/sublime and will deliver ZepIV like you've never heard it before. Interference is pretty much absent. I'll do my usual catch-all...you may detect a couple of crackles in a couple of isolated moments. This comes with the following guarantee...it will...blow-you-away!
Cover (Vg+) In great shape and has been cared for down the years. A lovely clean and flat front with barely a crease, and no visible wear at all. The rear fares well too, but bear in mind there's a bit of tape-residue at the top and bottom edges. The interior looks fine with some light handling and a few light undulations [very minor]. Edge wear is pretty light and the spine fully intact. Overall the cover retains excellent rigidity.
Inner (Vg) Sides have split and have been taped up to secure them. Otherwise aok.
